ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN
Organic Transition
Our Organic Transition campaign expands access to organic certification, so all farmers have the tools they need to transition successfully.
Organic Transition
Transitioning to organic is not easy. Farmers cannot apply prohibited synthetic pesticides and fertilizers to the land for three years prior to their first organic harvest. During this period, farmers may experience yield losses as the soil rebounds from synthetics and adjusts to ecological management of pests, weeds, and diseases.
Our Organic Transition campaign expands access to organic certification, so all farmers have the tools they need to transition successfully. The Advocacy Team’s work includes:
- We successfully established an Organic Transition Program at the California Department of Food and Agriculture with a $10 million investment.
- We secured $6 million to support transitioning farmers in California to develop organic system plans.
