CCOF Mexico Compliance Program Manual Updated

by kta |

CCOF has evaluated Mexico’s organic regulatory clarifications which are resulting in changes to the Mexico Compliance Program. The following changes may affect your compliance:

  • If your operation is located in Mexico, all ingredients must be certified to the Mexico organic standards (LPO) or the equivalent Canada organic standards (COR) for the final product to be sold in Mexico.
  • If your operation is located in the United States, all ingredients must be certified to LPO for the final product to be directly certified to the LPO standards. If ingredients are not LPO certified, you must request recertification of the final product to the LPO standards. Recertification is an allowance in the LPO regulations for the review of foreign-certified products to the LPO requirements. CCOF will review your final product for recertification; you can then request International Transaction / Control Documents to export your recertified products.

Operations affected by this change will receive an action item on their next Compliance Report detailing what action is needed. Consult the updated Mexico Compliance Program Manual and Mexico Compliance Program Application to familiarize yourself with all the requirements. The Mexican organic standards can be found here.

No action is required if:

  • Your operation is located in Mexico, and you do not sell organic products in Mexico.
  • Your operation is located in Mexico, and you do not import organic ingredients or supplies from other countries.
  • Your operation is located in the United States, and your suppliers are LPO certified.
