With the arrival last fall of organic gardener James Cook, Dominican’s commitment to wellness through good nutrition took a big leap. After more than 10 years of hosting an organic garden on the hospital campus, Dominican has decided to include the community in an organic outreach program that includes classes on gardening and eventually a mid-week produce stand.
Mr. Cook, a local beekeeper and owner of Groundswell Farm, tends the organic garden next to the lovely gazebo behind the behavioral health unit. The garden is 7,000 square feet and provides much of the produce, like beets, broccoli and carrots, for employees and visitors at Dominican’s cafeteria.
