CCOF received a NIFA Food Safety Outreach grant in 2017 to provide Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) required Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) compliant trainings and technical assistance for small scale, organic, and Spanish speaking farmers in California.

CCOF Expands GMO Testing

In response to the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) recent GMO testing pilot project results, CCOF has expanded its GMO testing and will assist CDFA in identifying any potential source of inadvertent GMO presence along the organic supply chain.

CCOF Joins in Advocating for Urban Agriculture in Farm Bill

CCOF joined with 27 diverse organizations to request that the Senate and House agriculture committee leadership include provisions supporting urban agriculture in the 2018 Farm Bill. CCOF supports expanding resources for farmers, and urban agriculture is a growing sector that increases opportunities for local organic foods in metropolitan areas.

OTA has a crucial presence in Washington D.C. and is influential in the development of federal organic policies. OTA’s members work together through networking, advocacy, and other initiatives to encourage and protect farming practices and to share the benefits of organic with consumers, media, and policymakers.

The Organic Trade Association (OTA) held its annual Organic Week in Washington D.C. in late May. Hundreds of organic advocates flocked to DC to participate in the events, which included two conferences and meetings with congressional offices on Capitol Hill.
 

CCOF Members Appointed to Fruits and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee

Last week, United States Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced the appointment of 25 members to the reestablished Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee (FVIAC). Secretary Perdue appointed CCOF members Jeff Huckaby of Cal-Organic Farms, Brian Kirschenmann of Kirschenmann Farms, and Kelly Carl Ely of FreshPoint to the committee.
 
The appointed members will serve two-year terms on the FVIAC.

CCOF Members Urge USDA to Issue Origin of Livestock Final Rule

Last week CCOF members signed a letter to USDA and National Organic Program (NOP) leadership urging the agency to issue a final rule on the Origin of Livestock.

CCOF Membership Approves CCOF Bylaws Revision!

CCOF members overwhelmingly approved important updates and revisions to the CCOF organizational bylaws.
 
We would like to thank those who participated in CCOF’s recent bylaws amendment vote! 500 operations participated in this election, and 89 percent of voters approved the updates. Member participation in this process demonstrated commitment to the future of CCOF and how central our members are to the unique character and democratic structure of CCOF.
