Meet Jessica Bahr & Get Involved with the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund

I plan to begin an FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project raising organic vegetables. I work for a produce grower who attends farmers’ markets and I have seen how well organically produced vegetables sell. I selected a 100'x60' area at my parent's home for my organic garden. I know a lot about growing vegetables because of my employment and they have agreed to let me sell my produce at their seven farmers’ market locations.

Meet Jesus Alcauter & Get Involved with the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund

Jesus Alcauter
Jesus Alcauter’s father was a vegetable farmer for many years in Michoacán, Mexico, growing corn, tomatoes, squash, and other crops. He instilled a love of farming and rural life in Alcauter, and even though he spent most of his childhood in Mexico City, his family would spend as much time in the countryside as possible.
Three years ago, Alcauter purchased his first ranch in Central Texas, where he and his wife raise chickens and goats.

Meet Jodi Lemmen: A CCOF Foundation Future Organic Farmer

Jodi Lemmen

My family started a large vegetable garden two years ago, and it soon became my project. This past year, my neighbor allowed me to expand my garden at her house, doubling the size of my overall garden. Being in 4-H for 9 years has also helped me learn about business and following through on projects. This year I grew lettuce and kale and sold it to a local health food store. When the owner of the local store tried my lettuce and heard it was organic, she was so excited. She couldn't keep it on the shelf at the store.

Meet John Gove & Get Involved with the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund

John Gove
John Gove grew up on a small, diverse vegetable farm and will be the seventh generation of his family to take it over. Throughout his first year studying horticultural science, vegetable and fruit production, and sustainability at Michigan State University, Gove’s eyes were opened to organic farming.

Meet Jonathan Houser: A CCOF Foundation Future Organic Farmer

Jonathan Houser is a 26-year-old Navy submarine veteran who lives in Sparta, North Carolina, with his wife Hannah and daughter Sallie. They are expecting their second child this winter. Houser grew up on his grandfather’s tobacco and cattle farm, and the Houser family now owns Blue Feather Creek Farm, a small 30-acre farm that is home to sheep, chickens, and rabbits (so far). They also grow a variety of crops using sustainable methods without the use of synthetic chemicals.

Meet Joseph Malone & Get Involved with the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund

Joseph Malone
I am an agroecology student at West Virginia University and I also work at the WVU Organic Research Farm.  This grant will be used to further my study of agroecological principles and rural development at West Virginia University, and the WVU Organic Research Farm.  My goals are to find the sustainable management practices, crops, and rotations that are best suited to the unique farming conditions found here in the Mountain State.  It is my firm conviction that small scale sustainable agriculture is the key to rebuilding West Virginia and its proud people in a post-coal world.  The declin
