CCOF Hosts Webinar on Methods for Teaching Organic Farming and Gardening

Join farmer-educator Christof Bernau from the Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) at UC Santa Cruz on Wednesday, February 24, from 12-1 p.m. for a free webinar on farm-based experiential education. Bernau will discuss ways to use an array of strategies to engage your audience; build student, intern and apprentice capacity; and grow the next generation of farmers.

CCOF Members Highlighted in “Beyond the Harvest” Documentary Series

Peterson Family Farms and Three Sisters Organic are featured farmers in a new television documentary series called “Beyond the Harvest.” The series explores the farm to table phenomenon and highlights businesses in California’s Central Valley. 
 
The series will air for 13 weeks in Fresno, Chico, Redding, and Bakersfield. Episodes will also be released online.

CCOF’s Val Davis to Present at Holistic Management International’s Cultivating Community Conference

CDFA and Israeli Ministry of Ag to Co-Host Forum on Water and Agriculture

One year after California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) Secretary Karen Ross led a delegation to Israel on a California Climate-Smart Agriculture Policy Mission, CDFA and the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will co-host a forum on water and agriculture.

CDFA Announces Grant Funding Available for Healthy Soils Program

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is now accepting applications for the Healthy Soils Program (HSP). The program provides funding for incentivizing and demonstrating soil health practices that sequester carbon, reduce greenhouse gases, and improve soil health. 
 
The HSP has two components: the HSP Incentives Program and the HSP Demonstration Projects.
 

Clif Bar Invests in University of California’s First-Ever Organic Research Institute

The University of California system's first-ever institute for organic research and education will be established in the University of California's Agriculture and Natural Resources division (UC ANR) with a $500,000 endowment gift from Clif Bar & Company and $500,000 in matching funds from UC President Janet Napolitano.
 
The California Organic Institute will accelerate the development and adoption of effective tools and practices for organic farmers and those transitioning to organic by building on the capabilities of UC ANR's Cooperative Extension and Sustainable

In 2017, Fresno Commons, “a for-profit corporation and non-profit land trust, working to grow vibrant, community-owned local food system in the Fresno and San Joaquin Valley,” ordered cards to include in their CSA boxes to help educate their customers about the benefits of buying organic.
