CCOF Members Featured in National Geographic Article on Organic Farming

CCOF recently assisted National Geographic photographer George Steinmetz with identifying organic farms for aerial photos to accompany an article titled “We don’t have enough organic farms. Why not?” by journalist Rachel Cernansky. The article describes the growth of organic agriculture in the United States and the challenges faced by organic farmers.

CCOF Membership Approves CCOF Bylaws Revision!

CCOF members overwhelmingly approved important updates and revisions to the CCOF organizational bylaws.
 
We would like to thank those who participated in CCOF’s recent bylaws amendment vote! 500 operations participated in this election, and 89 percent of voters approved the updates. Member participation in this process demonstrated commitment to the future of CCOF and how central our members are to the unique character and democratic structure of CCOF.

CCOF Provides Organic Verification for Organic Trade Association Dinner

This year, at the Organic Trade Association’s (OTA) Expo East kick-off dinner and awards event on September 21, the entire meal will be verified organic by CCOF. OTA “strives to always offer organic food at our events,” but decided to take it a step further this year. CCOF worked with them to implement a verification process to ensure their organic menu is compliant with national standards.

CCOF Seeks Chief Certification Officer

CCOF Certification Services, LLC is seeking a Chief Certification Officer (CCO). This position is responsible to the Management Committee of CCOF Certification Services, LLC for the successful execution of certification programs. The CCO reports to the CEO of CCOF, Inc. in the CEO’s capacity as chair of the LLC Management Committee and works collaboratively with the executive leadership team to further CCOF’s mission of advancing organic agriculture for a healthy world.

CCOF Submits Comment on Organic Livestock & Poultry Practices Rule

Last week, CCOF submitted a comment to USDA opposing the agency’s proposal to withdraw the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices (OLPP) rule. CCOF also joined 80 other organic producers, retailers, organizations, certifiers, farm groups, and consumer organizations in an open letter to USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue urging him to implement the rule. 
 

CCOF Welcomes New Policy Director, Rebekah Weber!

Last week, CCOF welcomed our new policy director, Rebekah Weber. Weber comes to CCOF from Vermont, where she worked as a clean water advocate for Conservation Law Foundation. In this role, Weber built coalitions of diverse stakeholders and advanced legislation to protect Lake Champlain and improve community resilience. Previously, Weber engaged in farmer outreach as a Fulbright Fellow in Nepal and worked on agriculture and environmental policy for U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy.

CCOF will be at Expo Orgánico at the World Trade Center in Mexico City, Mexico from June 22 through 24, 2016.

Expo Orgánico is the largest organic trade show in Mexico, where producers from Mexico showcase their products to buyers from Europe, Canada, and the United States.
