Is your food business eligible for a qualified exemption under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Preventive Controls for Human Food Rule? If so, join us in October for the second webinar in our FSMA 101 for Organic Processors series and find out what you need to do to comply as a Qualified Exempt operation.
Your food business is eligible for a Qualified Exemption under the FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food Rule if it meets the following requirements:
- It is a “very small business,” defined as having less than $1 million in annual sales of human food
OR - it had less than $500,000 in annual gross sales (adjusted for inflation) over a previous three-year period AND sells the majority of the food directly to a “qualified end user” (i.e., a consumer or a restaurant or retail food establishment such as a grocery store that is located in the same state as the facility or not more than 275 miles from the facility).
During this webinar we will review the calculations used to determine qualified facility status, highlight Food and Drug Administration filing and record requirements, and walk through the modified compliance requirements for qualified facilities.
The majority of the content in this webinar applies to food processors across the United States. A small fraction of the content will address state-specific food safety. Processors based in Washington state have the opportunity to join a webinar with food safety experts knowledgeable about their state’s specific food safety regulations. Food processors based in other states are encouraged to join any webinar.
This webinar is the second in a four-part series on FSMA and food safety basics for organic food processors. Other webinars in the series cover:
- A review of FSMA compliance categories for processors
- What you need to do if your business falls under the Fully Covered category of the Preventive Controls Rule
- Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs)
