What does it mean that CCOF is a nonprofit organization governed by the people who grow and make our food? It means that CCOF-certified farmers, ranchers, and processor–handlers represent each of CCOF’s 15 chapters on CCOF’s Board of Directors.

Each chapter is guided by its own leadership consisting of a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, in addition to the board representative. This small group of dedicated people is responsible for convening at least one meeting per year and overseeing the chapter budget.
Serving as a chapter leader is an excellent way to hone your leadership skills, serve the organic community, and have a say in the direction of the organization. Chapters have huge potential to spread the word about organic in their communities, create networking opportunities for organic businesses, and provide venues for CCOF members and the public to gather and discuss concerns, questions, and ideas. And chapters have dedicated staff support from CCOF’s Member Services Advocate.
CCOF truly is a member-driven organization. Chapter leaders are elected by their chapter members to serve three-year terms. So the next time you receive a call for nominations from your chapter, consider throwing your hat into the ring.
