ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN
Climate Solutions
Our Climate Solutions campaign centers organic agriculture in the fight against climate change.
Climate Solutions
Organic farming is a climate solution. Organic certification requires farmers and ranchers to conserve soils, water, wetlands, woodlands, and wildlife. To fulfill this requirement, organic farmers implement multiple strategies, including crop rotation, cover cropping, mulching, conservation tillage, compost application, and many other organic practices. These practices are sometimes called climate-smart because they reduce greenhouse gas emissions and store carbon in soils.
Our Climate Solutions campaign centers organic agriculture in the fight against climate change. We influence policy to uplift organic farming as a climate solution. The Advocacy Team’s work includes:
- We successfully advocated for California to establish the statewide climate target that 20% of farmland be certified organic by 2045.
- We are pushing California to create a definition of regenerative agriculture that starts with organic certification.
- We are making California climate funds more accessible to organic and small-scale farmers.
