Farmers are an essential part of their communities. Apolinar “Poli” Yerena, owner of Yerena Farms, has been farming organically in the Watsonville community since 2010. For Poli, farming is more than a business, it is a way of life. 

Stakeholder Input Sought for Regulatory Alignment Study

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has contracted with Crowe LLP (Crowe) to conduct a regulatory alignment study. As part of the study, Crowe is evaluating food safety and water quality regulatory requirements overseen by CDFA, California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), and State Water Resources Control Board (Water Boards) as part of an effort to streamline the administrative processes and optimize information collected by the state. 
 

We Want To Hear From You on Labor Challenges

We know that labor is often the biggest expense on the farm. We are looking to better understand issues producers are facing with labor. We are offering a $25 stipend to organic producers who participate in our survey. New UC Davis Project Connects Livestock Producers With Meat Processors and Buyers

The UC Davis Food Systems Lab, CCOF’s partner in the California Meat Processing Coalition, has launched a new project to connect farmers and ranchers, slaughter and processing facilities, and meat purchasers in new local and regional meat supply chains in California. The project will focus on building supply chains in the Sacramento Valley, Sierra Foothills, and North Coast regions of California.
