Happy to New Year to all members of our organic family: farmers, ranchers, processors, retailers, consumers, and policymakers! In seasons like this, we are reminded of the hope a new year or new growing season brings and the effort that lies ahead. 
 
We’re beginning 2018 by giving thanks for all of you who contribute to CCOF’s mission: advancing organic agriculture for a healthy world. 
 

2018 Farm Bill Becomes Law with Wins for Organic

Farm Bill
In late December, President Donald Trump signed the 2018 Farm Bill into law. Crucially, the farm bill includes provisions to authorize and fund the National Organic Program (NOP), the National Organic Certification Cost Share Program (NOCCSP), and other organic programs.
 
CCOF and our members worked hard to build support for organic priorities in the farm bill throughout 2018. The 2014 Farm Bill expired in September 2018 without a replacement bill.

A Cause for Celebration: CCOF Policy Day at the State Capitol

On February 11, a dedicated group of individuals came together in Sacramento to represent and advocate on behalf of organic at CCOF’s Policy Day. Over 100 members of the organic community met with elected representatives and public officials to hammer home the message that organic is a significant and growing part of the California and national economy.

A Tribute to CCOF’s Cathy Calfo: Her Guiding Light Advances Organic Agriculture

I have witnessed Cathy Calfo’s vivacious drive since 2011 when she became the Executive Director of CCOF.  Since that time, she has been a friend, mentor, confidant and co-conspirator in advancing all things organic.
 
During her eight-year tenure, she achieved many policy and advocacy successes for organic agriculture in California and the Nation.
 
Cathy will leave the organization in March, in the good hands of Kelly Damewood.
