CalCAN

CCOF proudly partners with organizations whose goals are closely aligned with our organic mission, vision, and principles. Partnering with other organizations allows CCOF to advocate on behalf of its members regionally, state-wide, and nationally.

California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN)

CCOF is a founding executive committee member of a statewide coalition called the California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN). CalCAN is committed to building an ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable food and farming system in California and was founded in response to an urgent call for sustainable practices that reduce farming-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and prepare farmers to cope with the coming challenges of climate change.

Fortunately, many of the practices developed by the organic farming community offer powerful strategies for reducing GHG emissions, sequestering carbon, and making agriculture more resilient to climate change by decreasing reliance on fossil fuels, conserving water, and increasing soil fertility. CalCAN is the only organization advocating policy solutions at the nexus of climate change and organic/sustainable agriculture in California, serving as a bridge between agriculture and the environment and thus cultivating farmer leadership on the issue.

National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC)

CCOF is a represented member of the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC), a national alliance of grassroots organizations that advocate for federal policies to advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities. NSAC gathers input from farmers and grassroots organizations, develops policy through participatory issue committees, provides direct representation in Washington D.C. on behalf of its members, and builds the strength of the sustainable agriculture movement.

In its 25-year history, NSAC has successfully promoted conservation practices; fostered family farm agriculture; built new markets and businesses; developed research, education, and extension; and ensured safe food supplies. CCOF is a participant in many NSAC organizational councils and committees. We participate with other coalition members to advocate and campaign for likeminded goals.

Organic Trade Association (OTA)

The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is a membership-based business association for the organic community in North America. OTA has a crucial presence in Washington D.C. and is influential in the development of federal organic policies. OTA’s members work together through networking, advocacy, and other initiatives to encourage and protect farming practices and to share the benefits of organic with consumers, media, and policymakers. Working together with OTA allows CCOF to join with other farmers, processors, handlers, and stakeholders to advocate nationally for the organic principles we all share.
