Ya seas agricultor, estudiante, agr\u00f3nomo o una persona consciente de lo que come, es muy probable que hayas visto el impacto que la agricultura org\u00e1nica puede tener en la tierra y en las personas vinculadas a ella.<\/h2>\n<p>Pero lo org\u00e1nico es m\u00e1s que una simple etiqueta. Es un compromiso con pr\u00e1cticas que mejoran la salud del suelo, y un enfoque agr\u00edcola basado en sistemas que protege los recursos naturales, fortalece la biodiversidad y fomenta la resiliencia a largo plazo de las explotaciones agr\u00edcolas y las comunidades.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando la agricultura org\u00e1nica comenz\u00f3 a ganar impulso a nivel nacional, los agricultores y ganaderos de todo el pa\u00eds presionaron para que se establecieran normas m\u00e1s estrictas y se exigiera una mayor rendici\u00f3n de cuentas en el mercado. Su labor de promoci\u00f3n condujo a la puesta en marcha del Programa Org\u00e1nico Nacional del Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos (USDA) en 2001, lo que contribuy\u00f3 a garantizar que los consumidores de todo el pa\u00eds pudieran confiar en el verdadero significado del t\u00e9rmino \u00aborg\u00e1nico\u00bb. Hoy en d\u00eda, millones de personas eligen alimentos org\u00e1nicos certificados cada d\u00eda gracias a la dedicaci\u00f3n de los agricultores, ganaderos, investigadores y defensores que trabajan para construir un sistema alimentario m\u00e1s resiliente.<\/p>\n<p>Ese impulso sigue creciendo. A trav\u00e9s del Programa de Asociaci\u00f3n para la Transici\u00f3n a la Agricultura Org\u00e1nica del Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos (USDA), conocido como <a href=\"https:\/\/www.organictransition.org\/\">TOPP<\/a>, los agricultores de todo el pa\u00eds est\u00e1n obteniendo acceso a programas de tutor\u00eda, asistencia t\u00e9cnica y recursos que facilitan la transici\u00f3n a la agricultura org\u00e1nica.<\/p>\n<p>En la Fundaci\u00f3n CCOF, nos enorgullece contribuir a liderar esta labor. Como administradores del Centro Regional del Oeste y Suroeste para la Transici\u00f3n Ecol\u00f3gica, reunimos a m\u00e1s de 50 organizaciones sin fines de lucro, universidades y socios de asistencia t\u00e9cnica que colaboran para apoyar a m\u00e1s de 500 agricultores de nuestra regi\u00f3n, que abarca California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Haw\u00e1i, Utah y Nuevo M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n<p>Junto con nuestros socios nacionales de TOPP, hemos ayudado a que m\u00e1s de 340 000 acres de tierras agr\u00edcolas en todo Estados Unidos pasen a gestionarse de forma org\u00e1nica certificada. Esto se traduce en suelos m\u00e1s sanos, cursos de agua m\u00e1s limpios, ecosistemas m\u00e1s fuertes y tierras agr\u00edcolas capaces de seguir alimentando a las comunidades durante muchas generaciones.<\/p>\n<p>C\u00f3mo apoya TOPP a los agricultores org\u00e1nicos:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>M\u00e1s de 230 organizaciones asociadas de todo el pa\u00eds participan en el programa TOPP, entre las que se incluyen organizaciones sin fines de lucro, universidades, instituciones de investigaci\u00f3n y redes de agricultores mentores<\/li>\n<li>Se han incorporado y supervisado m\u00e1s de 340 202 acres de tierras agr\u00edcolas al sistema de gesti\u00f3n org\u00e1nica certificada<\/li>\n<li>357 mentores de agricultura org\u00e1nica han apoyado a 595 agricultores a trav\u00e9s de la formaci\u00f3n y la orientaci\u00f3n pr\u00e1ctica<\/li>\n<li>1.607 productores org\u00e1nicos recibieron asistencia t\u00e9cnica directa<\/li>\n<li>Se han organizado m\u00e1s de 1.802 eventos en todo el pa\u00eds, entre los que se incluyen jornadas de campo, talleres, conferencias, seminarios web y cursos de capacitaci\u00f3n para profesionales del sector agr\u00edcola<\/li>\n<li>Se han llevado a cabo m\u00e1s de 2.844 intervenciones de asistencia t\u00e9cnica en todo el pa\u00eds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>La agricultura org\u00e1nica no es una moda pasajera. Es una inversi\u00f3n en el futuro de la agricultura. Cada hect\u00e1rea que se convierte, cada agricultor al que se apoya y cada alianza que se forja nos acerca un paso m\u00e1s a un sistema alimentario m\u00e1s saludable y resiliente para todos.<\/p>\n<h4><em>Dado que la financiaci\u00f3n p\u00fablica destinada a apoyar la transici\u00f3n a la agricultura org\u00e1nica est\u00e1 prevista que finalice en 2026, la inversi\u00f3n filantr\u00f3pica es fundamental para mantener este modelo de eficacia probada y garantizar que los agricultores que est\u00e9n listos para dar el paso sigan teniendo acceso a ella.
