Republic of Korea Labeling Requirements

This page also available in english.

By January 1, 2022, all organic products sold in Korea must comply with two new label requirements:

  1. Products containing non-organic ingredients must display a percentage statement. The total percentage of organic ingredients or the percentage of each ingredient used in the product must be indicated in the ingredients list.
  2. Non-organic ingredients must not be used as part of the product name.

Additionally, Korea has clarified that products traded under the U.S.–Korea Equivalency may not display organic seals other than the USDA NOP and Korea MAFRA organic seals. The use of another country’s organic seal is prohibited unless the product is directly certified to that country’s standard. In these cases, the relevant organic certificate is required for Korean customs clearance.

CCOF does not need to review updated Korean export labels. U.S. operations or Korean importers may use stickers to satisfy the new label requirements.

Please review CCOF’s International Market Labeling Guide for additional information and contact your Certification Service Specialist or CCOF’s export team at export@ccof.org with any questions.
