ALBA- AmeriCorps VIP Fellow

AmeriCorps VIP Fellow wanted at the Agriculture & Land-Based Training Association (ALBA) to recruit high-value (skilled and corporate) volunteers and to build volunteer infrastructure to benefit small organic family farmers. Start Date: September 9, 2019
 
Service Description:
 
AmeriCorps VIP Fellows are placed at established community nonprofit and educational organizations providing services to our community’s children and families. This position is responsible for improving the capacity of the placement site to attract and utilize high value (skilled and corporate) volunteers in order to increase services to the community. Over the course of the 1700-hour term, each VIP Fellow will recruit, train, and retain about 50 volunteers; build business partnerships for financial and volunteer support of service activities; and build capacity within the Partner Site volunteer program to provide the support, skills and resources volunteers need to be successful. As a VIP Fellow, you will be part of a team serving in different agencies throughout our community. You will build a legacy of volunteer infrastructure that will allow your partner site to provide services for years to come. You will spend time in the community, building partnerships, and forging lasting relationships. This position is a valuable opportunity to develop and apply your leadership and community organizing skills to make a lasting difference in the lives of children, youth, their families, and the local community.
 
The AmeriCorps VIP Fellow placed with ALBA will be charged with maintaining, coordinating, and expanding a volunteer program for the agency. ALBA’s mission is to create economic opportunity for limited-resource and aspiring organic farmers through land-based education in the heart of the Salinas Valley. The VIP Fellow at this site will be involved in daily community outreach and should be able to learn the basics of organic farming and the ALBA farm incubator in order to host tours to the farm. This position is a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities on a farm and needs a highly organized individual with high energy and good humor.
 
For your 11 months of service the VIP will receive: 
  • A $15,500 living allowance divided over 11 months 
  • Health Insurance (no dental or vision)
  • Food stamp eligibility 
  • A $10,000 education award at end of service 
  • Possibility of shared housing on CSUMB campus
 
You will be required to:
Complete both 1700 hours of service AND 11 months of service.
 
Required:

  • Some college experience desired
