** Job description **

Farm Management (80 %)

  • Carry accountability and responsibility for Norcal Agrihood Farms and manage day-to-day operations of multiple agrihood farm locations around bay area
  • Report issues to Manager as they arise and discuss/workshop them at weekly meetings
  • Design planting layouts, track planting and replanting times
  • Start seeds, maintain seedlings, plant and maintain farms throughout season, harvest produce
  • Acts proactively to prevent issues with the gardens
  • Solve pest and disease problems, fertilize and amend soil, repair irrigation issues, etc.
  • Maintain sanitary, safe and organized work and storage areas
  • Manage and maintain inventory: tools, pest and disease control products, seeds and plants, trellises and other garden accessories
  • Lead agrihood staff on job sites to efficiently and effectively complete daily tasks; and assist with relevant onboarding and training topics as assigned by manager

Programming & Events (10%)

  • Coordinate with the Community HOAs for programs and events: Resident volunteer shifts
  • Farmers Market prep: Patterson Ranch Pumpkin patch (attend this event, a - Saturday in October)Other events, as assigned by manager
  • Teach and interact with residents on a daily basis; maintain positive, professional, and enthusiastic relationships with community residents and vendors

Administrative (10%)

  • Manage administrative duties for Resident Farmer Program including: data pertaining to harvest yields, volunteer hours and supplies
  • Coordinate with community vendors to resolve site specific issues when necessary (pest control, irrigation, building maintenance, housekeeping)
  • Communicate accurate budget and financial reporting to Farmscape Admin
  • Responsible for all communications and scheduling with resident participants
  • Attend community meetings

Other

  • Develop best practices for community farm sites, extending Farmscape best practices to this specific context. To be developed in coordination with Head Farmer
  • Attends staff, service, and training meetings as required
  • Additional tasks as assigned by Manager

** Qualifications **

  • 3+ years experience with farm management, mixed-crop annual vegetable cultivation, mixed-fruit orchards, small-farm machines (walk-behind tractor, etc)
  • 1+ years Crew management experience
  • Ability to lift 50+lbs
  • Ability to perform manual work, lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and professionally with customers and staff
  • Ability to learn and adapt to Farmscape best practices
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail a must
  • Valid driver’s license

** Compensation, Benefits, Job Info **

$75,000 - $85,000 annually

Company vehicle provided

Benefits for full-time employees include: Health insurance, 401(k) plan with employer matching, FSA & Dependent Care plan, Paid vacation, Monthly Smartphone reimbursement and Mileage reimbursement. Vacations are not permitted during season switch months (April & October)

Full-time / M - F / 7:30am - 4pm

Office is in Oakland, job sites are multiple locations in Bay Area
