Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Pig Manager to oversee the daily care and long-term well-being of our pasture-raised pigs. We are a medium to large-scale Regenerative Organic Certified® farm. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pig husbandry, experience with organic livestock systems, and a commitment to humane, regenerative agriculture practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Care & Feeding
- Ensure timely and appropriate feeding of pigs according to age, weight, and organic standards
- Monitor water systems and troubleshoot issues to maintain constant access to clean water
- Observe animal health daily and address or report concerns promptly
Pasture Management & Animal Movement
- Rotate pigs to fresh pasture regularly using planned paddock systems
- Monitor pasture health and adjust grazing plans to avoid overuse and support soil regeneration
- Set up and maintain fencing (including electric fencing) as needed for secure and effective rotations
Record Keeping & Compliance
- Maintain detailed records of feed, health treatments, pasture movements, and weights for organic certification compliance
- Assist with organic inspections and ensure all practices adhere to USDA Organic standards
- Track breeding schedules, farrowing dates, and piglet development
General Livestock Facility Maintenance
- Clean and maintain shelters, feeding areas, and handling facilities
- Monitor and repair infrastructure related to pig operations
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience managing pigs, preferably in a pasture-based or organic system
- Working knowledge of organic livestock standards
- Strong record-keeping and organizational skills
- Physically capable of handling the demands of livestock work, including lifting, walking, and working outdoors in all weather
- Ability to operate farm equipment is a plus (e.g., tractor, skid steer)
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large-scale rotational grazing systems
- Knowledge of regenerative agriculture and holistic management
- Experience with breeding and farrowing preferred
