Reminder: NOSB Comment Period Open through October 26

The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) meeting agenda and supporting materials are available for review and public comment. 

The NOSB will meet in St. Louis, Missouri, November 16-18, 2016. Written comments and signups for oral comment are due October 26. 

The NOSB will discuss and vote on many important topics, including: 

  • Crop materials scheduled for sunset in 2018, including copper sulfate, calcium chloride, and peracetic acid
  • Bioponics (hydroponics and aquaponics) and container-based production 
  • Strengthening guidance on organic seed and planting stock 
  • Handling materials scheduled for sunset in 2018, including agar-agar, animal enzymes, carrageenan, tartaric acid, cellulose, potassium hydroxide, silicon dioxide, and beta-carotene extract 
  • Marine materials used in handling 
  • A petition to remove ivermectin from the National List 
  • Proposed Excluded Methods Terminology 

CCOF will conduct outreach to groups of members who utilize key materials and practices up for consideration by the NOSB. 

We encourage all members to carefully review the agenda and supporting materials, assess what impacts these decisions might have on their operations, and submit public comment on relevant issues. 

There are three ways to provide public comment: 

  1. Submit written comment by October 26, 2016. Write a letter on your letterhead and upload or write your comment directly online. Click the “Comment Now!” button and follow the directions. 
  2. Sign up to present an oral comment during a commenting webinar on Thursday, November 3, from 1-4 pm ET. Comment slots are three minutes in length. 
  3. Present oral comment during the face-to-face meeting in St. Louis. Public comments will be taken on November 16 and 17.
