NOSB Accepting Comments on the Spring 2021 Meeting Agenda Through April 21

Deadlines are approaching to submit public comments and register for oral comments for the spring 2021 National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) meeting. We encourage CCOF members to submit public comments on the substances up for re-listing or removal from the National List of Allowed & Prohibited Substances, especially regarding substances listed on their Organic System Plan.

Crop Materials

  • Copper sulfate (§205.601(a)(3) & §205.601(e)(4))
    • The NOSB will review copper sulfate for use as an algicide in aquatic rice systems and as tadpole shrimp control in aquatic rice production at the upcoming meeting. Farmers also commonly use copper sulfate in vineyard and orchard systems for disease control. The NOSB will review this use of copper sulfate at a later meeting.
  • Ozone gas
  • Peracetic acid (§205.601(a)(6) & §205.601(i)(8))
  • EPA List 3: inerts of unknown toxicity
  • Chlorine materials
    • Calcium hypochlorite
    • Chlorine dioxide
    • Hypochlorous acid—generated from electrolyzed water

Submit Written and Oral Comments

  • Register for oral comments by Monday, April 5 at the USDA website
  • You can submit written comments on the NOSB Subcommittees’ proposals via Regulations.gov (Docket # AMS-NOP-20-0089).
