The state of California joins in the national celebration of Agriculture Day each year with a gathering of farmers, ranchers, public agencies, state legislators, and agricultural organizations at the state capitol. This year’s Ag Day was on Tuesday, March 19; the theme was Next-Gen Tools, Talent & Tech.

CCOF’s Senior Policy Manager Addison Peterson and Senior Policy Advocate Laetitia Benador attended Ag Day and helped staff a booth shared by partner organizations Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) and the California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN). They had a great time connecting with California’s key agricultural policymakers, including Secretary Ross and Assemblymember Connolly, along with the agency and legislative staffers who stopped by the booth to learn more about organic farming.

The capitol grounds were packed with booths handing out samples of California-grown food, dairy, and flowers, as well as 4-Hers displaying their bunnies. Other animals were on display, including horses and cattle. Visitors were able to inspect tractors and pick up information on protecting beneficial insects, fertility management, and other agricultural practices.

Happy Agriculture Day to all CCOF members! We look forward to celebrating again next year!
