The CCOF Foundation has partnered with the National FFA Organization (FFA) to provide grants to high school students for organic Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects over the last four years. This year, Foundation staff member Josaphine Stevenson attended FFA’s National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana for the first time. The Convention and Expo were attended by 64,000 FFA students from throughout the nation.
We were inspired by the students’ energy and enthusiasm for agriculture. Stevenson also had the opportunity to meet and visit with several of the amazing students who received CCOF’s organic SAE grants this past year. Shannon Good, for example, is a 16-year-old organic dairy farmer who milks 70 cows twice each day before and after school. Good received an organic SAE grant from the CCOF Foundation’s Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund in 2016 to expand her barn and plans to reapply this year.
CCOF is accepting applications for FFA organic SAE grants through November 15, 2017. Find out more about application guidelines and how to apply. The CCOF Foundation is excited to build upon our partnership with the National FFA Organization. The 653,359 students participating in FFA nationally are the future farmers of America, and CCOF is pleased to offer them the opportunity to learn more about organic agriculture and production!
