California’s Organic Advisory Committee Will Meet Sept. 5 in Fresno

A jam-packed agenda awaits members of the California Organic Products Advisory Committee (COPAC), which will convene Wed., Sept. 5, at 10 am in the Wonderful Conference Room at the Jordan Agricultural Research Center, California State University Fresno.
The public is welcome to attend the meeting and share their thoughts during the public comment session.
COPAC advises the California secretary of food and agriculture on education, outreach, and technical assistance for organic producers in the state. The committee is comprised of 15 primary members plus alternates for each seat.
For the first time in recent memory, all primary seats on COPAC are filled, including a newly appointed member Michael Menes of True Organic Products. Menes was appointed to one of two “technical” seats, required to have scientific credentials related to agricultural chemicals, toxicology, or food science.
At the request of some COPAC members, CCOF policy staff organized a farm tour in the Fresno area the day before the meeting. Stops on the tour include the Fresno Food Commons, Braga Organic Farms, CSU Fresno, and Blossom Bluff Orchards. Attendees will learn about organic agriculture and research in California’s Central Valley.
