Assemblymember Connolly Introduces Bill to Improve the Organic Transition Pilot Program

by Jessica Gonzalez, Policy Advocate |

On February 20th, Assemblymember Connolly introduced AB 937, a bill sponsored by CCOF that ensures farmers have full access to organic transition support.

CCOF worked to create the Organic Transition Pilot Program (OTPP) in 2022 to provide farmers with more tools to stay in business and steward natural resources. Transitioning to organic certification takes dedication and time. During the three-year organic transition period, farmers must invest in new natural practices while managing additional risk without the ability to garner a price premium for their products.

AB 937 aims to streamline and consolidate support for farmers seeking to transition to organic. This bill would create a one-stop shop for financial and technical assistance, offering farmers the resources and support they need to successfully transition their operations to organic production.

Stay tuned for more information on how to support this bill. If you have any questions, please email Jessica Gonzalez at jgonzalez@ccof.org.
