Possible Internship Focuses

In general, each intern's tasks and projects focus on two to three of the following areas that are of the most interest to them. However, these are just guidelines – all interns participate in a variety of tasks and activities across the spectrum.

Event Coordination – Focus on 1) prepping materials for trade shows attended by CCOF and 2) assisting Executive Assistant with prep for events put on by CCOF (ex: Beer & Wine Tasting) and other consumer events (ex: CA Ag Day, Cal Poly Sustainable Ag Festival). Tasks and projects may include: obtaining sponsorships and donations, creating packlists and preparing literature, organizing trade show binders, doing merchandise inventories, creating flyers and consumer packets, etc. Event coordinators must have strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask and coordinate and be comfortable speaking directly with CCOF members and clients.

Publication Assistance – Focus on writing, editing, and sourcing photos for CCOF’s publications and various flyers as needed. Tasks and projects may include: researching and drafting articles, sourcing photographs for the magazine and E-newsletter, helping compile the calendar of events and classified advertising section for the magazine, editing drafts of the magazine and directory, etc. Publication assistants must have excellent writing, research and editing skills.

Sales Leads & Marketing Assistance – Focus on tracking and following up on leads and assisting the Director of Sales and Marketing. Tasks and projects may include: maintaining new inquiries and applicants database, updating the press coverage binder, updating and organizing email lists in Constant Contact, compiling member and client cross-reference lists prior to tradeshows, gathering potential leads for tradeshows and events, assisting the Director of Sales and Marketing in leads follow-up after events, etc. Sales Leads & Marketing Assistants must have excellent writing, editing, Excel, database and research skills and be comfortable communicating with clients and potential clients.

Community Outreach Coordination – Focus on planning and organizing CCOF’s presence at community and public events. Tasks and projects may include: finding consumer events and liaising with outside agencies organizing them, registering CCOF, organizing logistics and preparing materials, creating new consumer materials, attending events as a representative of CCOF, etc. Community outreach coordinators must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and be creative and able to follow through on ideas.

Website/Tech Assistance – Focus on all things tech. Tasks and projects may include: updating CCOF’s calendar and classifieds, posting CCOF information to other relevant websites and blogs, ensuring all CCOF website links are working, uploading new CCOF flyers and online forms, using Adobe Contribute, PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, etc. Website/tech assistants should have web and tech experience and knowledge of some of these programs.
