1) Advanced Practices in Soil Fertility & Weed Management
This workshop will cover advanced practices in organic soil fertility and weed management. This session will be led by a CE specialist and seasoned organic farmers, who will share their experiences and/or involvement in current extension research.

2) Holistic Range Management
This workshop will review advanced practices in range management for pasture, forages, coast grassland, and more. This session will be led by experienced dairymen and an organic grass fed beef producer.

This workshop will review exciting developments in turning agricultural waste into clean energy for processing facilities. Learn how Dixon Ridge Farms is using a biogas digester to convert their walnut shells into energy to run their walnut processing facility and how Straus Family Creamery uses a methane digester


1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Policy Keynote Speakers

The keynote speakers will brief participants on the political landscape that is impacting food systems, as well as on two new food safety laws - the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010, and the National Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement.

2:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Policy Workshops (concurrent)

1) Food Safety

This panel will provide an overview of the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010, the National Leafy Green Marketing Agreement, and their implications for organic farmers, ranchers, processors, and handlers.

2) Understanding the U.S. Farm Bill and How it Relates to Organic Producers

This panel will review and provide an update on the status of policies and funding that govern U.S. agriculture and food systems, known as the U.S. Farm Bill. Over the years, many groups have fought hard to expand U.S. Farm Bill programs and funding to benefit organic and sustainable farmers, ranchers, processors, and handlers. Learn about the basic ways Farm Bill programs can help you in your certified organic operation and how you can get involved to advocate for increased funding and programs for organic.
