We are a sustainable farm with opportunities in large scale gardening, horse farming grain crops, sustainable horse logging, small mill operation, animal husbandry including milk goats, sheep, alpacas, llamas, cows and chickens, and management of fiber animals and fiber processing. Our mission is research and education in sustainable agriculture. In our 4th year of operation this will be the last year for intern opportunities before we begin an intensive 8 month apprentice program in sustainable agriculture. Work begins at first light of the day and ends mid afternoon, 5 days/week. $120.00 stipend per month with access to food staples and what is produced on the farm/ranch. Livestock Compensation Program and Livestock Indemnity Program

Livestock producers have until July 18 to enroll in the 2005-2007 Livestock Compensation Program and Livestock Indemnity Program.  The LIP provides payments to eligible livestock owners and contract growers who incurred the death of livestock because of a natural disaster. The LCP provides payments to eligible livestock owners and cash lessees who suffered feed losses or increased feed costs because of a natural disaster. Proposals are due July 15, 2008.
The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) has issued its Request for Proposals for organic research and education projects for Fall 2008 grants. OFRF offers funds for research on any topic that will improve organic production systems, and for education and outreach projects to share organic farming information with current organic producers and to farmers and ranchers considering transitioning their operations to organic. Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund

Proposals are due October 1, 2008.
The goal of the Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI) Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund is to keep farmers in farming and maintain the economic base of North Carolina’s rural communities. The Reinvestment Fund aims to assist farmers and rural communities in selected North Carolina counties to develop new sources of agricultural income through provision of cost-share grants. USDA Farm Service Agency County Committee Elections in Monterey

Deadline for nominations: August 1, 2008

USDA Farm Service Agency, Local Administrative Area #1 (North Monterey County) has announced elections for County Committee members willing to serve a three year term starting January 1, 2009. Committees apply their judgement and knowledge to make decisions on county commodity price-support loan eligibility, conservation programs and other farm program-related issues. Individuals may nominate themselves or others as a candidate. In addition, eligible candidates can be nominated by community-based and other organizations in the county where the election is being held. Eligibility to hold office as a County Committee member includes: (1) nominees must be eligible to vote; (2) must have an interest in a farm or ranch as an individual or authorized representative of an entity and reside in the local administrative area in which they are a candidate.
