Apricot Lane Farms is a 234-acre farm integrated within a reawakened ecosystem. With a team that makes the seemingly impossible possible, the farm regeneratively grows more than 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables, and raises sheep, cows, pigs, chickens and ducks with care and respect while working in harmony (or a comfortable level of disharmony) within a dynamic ecosystem We are seeking an experienced Farm Fertility Assistant to support our farm-wide fertility program.

The Farm Fertility Assistant is responsible for the daily tasks of the Fertility Center (FC), caring for compost windrows farm-wide, maintaining a 40ft flow-through worm bin, brewing compost tea, and assisting in all farm-wide fertility applications, under the guidance of the Director of Soil and Plant Fertility.

JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Worm bin operation includes weekly feeding, watering, temperature monitoring, harvesting of the worm bin, and manure collection.
  • Compost tea brewing and application, thorough cleaning of the compost tea brewers, and other related tasks.
  • Windrow compost work includes, but is not limited to, record keeping, monitoring moisture and temperature weekly, coordinating and facilitating compost turns, and applying Biodynamic preparations.
  • Operating fertigation machine on weekly and monthly basis for pastures and orchards.
  • Assisting in the organization and maintenance of shared Google Drive resources and records.
  • Maintaining organization and cleanliness of the Fertility Center complex.
  • Participating in Biodynamic preparation making as needed.
  • Maintain Biodynamic prep garden and preps in storage.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 2+ years experience with garden/farm or compost/vermicompost systems
  • Must be willing and able to walk up hilly and steep terrain daily.
  • Be able/willing to work outside in a variety of extreme weather conditions—rain, cold, heat and wind.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds with and/or without assistance.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Ability to interact with all levels of guests, management, and staff.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently with minimal oversight.
  • Passion for composting and soil fertility
  • Desire to be part of a dynamic team
  • Tractor experience (preferred)
  • Interest in Biodynamic agriculture

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $23-$26, depending on experience
