The CCOF San Luis Obispo Chapter held our first annual meeting (in a couple years) in fall 2011 and elected a new slate of officers. We have many organic farms now certified with CCOF and the challenge, as with all chapters, is to give our members a reason to get involved at the local level. We hope to put together a group of small local farms to develop an aggregation co-op effort to better serve local restaurants and small stores. Even a co-op poultry processing center may be in the works ... time will tell!
Chapter Treasurer Eric Michielssen encourages SL Chapter members to join the local San Luis Obispo Grange: granges used to be community centers in small farming communities and are making a comeback as people get back into "local" and "community" centered things. The Santa Cruz Grange is now called the Green Grange. Local CCOF chapters might want to work with the local granges as they are great places for meetings and events!
