CCOF Strengthens Marketing in 2009 with
Improved Organic Directory and New Marketing Team

(January 29, 2009) Santa Cruz, CA – CCOF announced the launch of an improved 2009 Organic Directory, a new marketing team and a new information folder for those interested in becoming organic. The organization, which is one of the nation’s oldest and largest certification agencies, experienced an 11% growth in the number of certified members in 2008. As a result, their annual directory has grown to include listings of over 2,000 certified operations offering more than 1,300 different crops, products and services. In addition, 350 CCOF supporting members are listed in a comprehensive resource section making the 2009 Organic Directory a premier guide to sourcing organic for industry buyers.

Categories of operations include growers, livestock operations, processors, ingredients producers, storage facilities, packaging companies, private labelers, brokers, wholesalers and retailers. The 2009 Organic Directory is an easy to use reference resource. Readers can search for certified operations alphabetically, by name of operation, by location or by crops, livestock, products, processed goods or services. An informative front section provides information on CCOF, understanding organic, how to become certified organic, organic labeling and why it is important to buy organic.

The launch of the CCOF 2009 Organic Directory coincides with the announcement of a new marketing team comprised of Jane Baker, Director of Sales & Marketing and Bridgett McGrath as Marketing Specialist. Baker joined CCOF Marketing Department in December 2007 and was promoted to head up the team in August 2008. She brings with her a wealth of marketing management and sales experience. McGrath’s career at CCOF also began in 2007 when she joined the company as an intern while studying Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. After graduating, McGrath went on to work for Albert’s Organics before returning to CCOF in October 2008.

In addition, CCOF has produced a new information folder for operations that are interested in becoming certified organic. “The folders have been flying off the tables at trade shows,” says Jane Baker. “Our goal is to make the application process straightforward and clear for anyone interested in becoming certified organic.” The folder includes six simple steps to organic certification and an application CD as well as information on organic requirements, CCOF’s Global Market Access (GMA) program and on expedited service options.

“The new team and our improved marketing collateral are part of an ongoing process to strengthen our promotional work,” stated Peggy Miars, CCOF Executive Director. “We are looking forward to this year’s trade show season and getting out into the marketplace to promote our members and the benefits of buying and supporting organic”.
