Organic Spirits Debut at CCOF Beer and Wine Tasting Event

(May 23, 2008) Organic vodka and mescal will be featured for the first time at CCOF’s third annual Beer and Wine Tasting Event. Nolasco Spirits will be pouring their organic mescal, Benesin, whilst Shadow Spirits will be offering tastes of their organic vodka. The two organic Spirit producers will be joined by over 20 wineries and four breweries to create what is expected to be CCOF’s biggest Beer, Wine and Spirits Tasting event yet.

CCOF the organizer of the event is one of the nation’s largest organic certifiers and the certification agency for all the wineries, breweries and spirit producers that will represented at the event. Event goers will have the opportunity to meet and chat to the makers of these organic beverages, sample appetizers prepared by San Francisco Ferry Building restaurants as well as enjoy live gypsy jazz and classical music performed by the Golden Gate Hot Club and Live Culture. The event will be held again this year at San Francisco’s Ferry Building on Friday, October 24th.

The reputation of organic wine has been on the rise with an increasing number of organic wines winning awards in the last year. Adastra received a Silver Medal for its 2004 Merlot and a Gold Medal for its 2003 Merlot in the 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Barra of Mendocino’s 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon was Bronze medal winner in the 2007 National Women’s Wine Competition. Wine & Spirits Magazine Named Handley Cellars Best Mendocino Producer in 2007. Silver Mountain Vineyards of Santa Cruz 2004 Chardonnay was Silver Medal Winner in the 2008 SF Chronicle Wine Competition, and a Bronze Medal recipient in the 2008 Dallas Morning News Wine Competition. Yorkville Cellars won 10 Medals in the 2007 Mendocino County Fair and 4 Medals at the 2007 California State Fair. All these wineries and more will be offering tastings at the event.

Organic Breweries include: Butte Creek Brewing, Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing, Thirsty Bear Brewing Co. and Ukiah Brewing Company, the first certified organic Brewpub in the country.
Tickets are $25 for 10 tastes or $15 for 5 tastes, which includes a commemorative wine glass. Proceeds from the event will help fund CCOF’s education and outreach programs. For more information and to buy tickets online visit the CCOF website at www.ccof.org/ccoftasting.php.
